Yay for Radnor Lake!

The downstairs neighbors were at it again this morning with the karaoke, and it promised to be a bad day at the apartment. So we took off at lunchtime and had a quick lunch at Atlanta Bread Company (I had tomato soup with fennel and dill in a sourdough bread bowl, yum!), and then decided to check out Radnor Lake.

Did a little hiking, a little accidental mud-skiing, a little deer-watching, and even saw a tussle between two huge slider turtles! In the visitor center, I saw the happiest-looking snake I've ever seen (he was a pine snake, but isn't this the absolute cutest snake picture you've ever seen?). It was a lovely, relaxing day.

Even the accidental mud-skiing didn't diminish my enjoyment of the day, although I was ill-prepared for muddy hiking, wearing sporty flip-flops instead of walking shoes or hiking boots. So when we got back to the apartment, I pulled out the foot spa and gave myself a pedicure. Not quite as good as they do at the salon, but hey! 25 bucks cheaper.

And now I have freshly scrubbed feet and polished toes, and I'm sipping my Absolut Raspberri and tonic, and it's not such a bad day after all.

Stop the insanity!

Our downstairs neighbors apparently treated themselves to a karaoke machine for Easter. We had errands to run before lunch, but ever since we've been back, there's been a steady stream of poorly sung sappy pop crap ("You Were Always On My Mind" followed by "Amazed" and then "I Do (Cherish You)") seeping up through the floor with enough reverb to sound like a cheap Spanish-language radio ad. And sometimes the vocals are even in the right key.

Karsten wondered aloud what kind of sins he committed in his previous lives to deserve this punishment.

Four days until we close! Unfortunately, we can't move out of this place right away -- too much work to do in the new place. But at least we can spend most of our time over there fixing stuff up. Neither of us has ever looked forward to weeks of guaranteed hard work nearly as much as this.

Vacation, day #6

We received word from our apartment property manager yesterday that they were doing some work this morning requiring us to move our car from the lot by 8:00 AM, so it seemed like a good morning to go out for breakfast.Collapse )

Then thrift shopping.Collapse )

Alright, now this is kind of embarassing.Collapse )

Workout.Collapse )

Lunch.Collapse )

More shopping.Collapse )

Dinner.Collapse )

Live music.Collapse )

And then it was back home. And now I'm getting sleepy. It's been a good, long day.

Can I just say...

the power at our apartment is Still. Out.

Since last night.

And I'm so not pleased about the fact that we're going to have to replace everything in our fridge and freezer.

Oh! Almost forgot.

My coworker called after he left the office to tell me that one of the units in the duplex across the street from his house is going to be available for rent soon. For less than what we pay now. In a very cool part of town.

My fingers are crossed, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.
