Remember when I first heard the word 'branding' in a job advertised on the Linguist List, and I had no idea what it was? That was hilarious.

(I still think of cows when I hear the word. *g*)

That's right! I think about that now and then, and how prescient that was, given the current direction of my career. I was interested in marketing and branding back then, but I was so much more entrenched in technical communication that it seemed like the transition would be too difficult to make. There's been such a gradual shift of focus in my jobs over the past several years, though, that it made it possible to find myself where I am: deeply involved with brand definition work.

My former boss, the guy who hired me into this role, deserves a lot of credit for being able to recognize that a linguistics background would be a huge advantage in the role I'm currently in.

I should go back and see if I can find that job description from forever ago in my email archives and see how different it is from what I'm doing now. :)
Here you go! (Tagging rocks.)

Oh, no, wait...that wasn't the conversation about branding, that was the conversation about naming. I'd collapsed them in my mind. But I think you might have, too, because that was the job ad, anyway.
