A Year In Review: High Holy Mass of Contradictions
Number of jobs held this year (not counting HB): 5
Number of jobs held this year for fewer than four weeks: 4
Number of bird feeders stolen this year: 5 (plus a pole system) Update: I miscounted and that should have said 7 yesterday, but it's 10 now anyway
Number of full song demos recorded this year: 2
Number of posts referencing how cold the house was: 6
Number of posts tagged "dad" this year: 11 12
(Number of posts tagged "dad" last year: 21)
Number of posts tagged "socializing" this year: 18
(Number of posts tagged "socializing" last year: 6)

January was the month of the shockingly outrageous gas bill and trying to deal with the freakin' cold house.

February was a month of love and lust.We also got My Evil Twin demoed.

In March, Karsten and I celebrated three years in Nashville, and I joined the Metroblogging team. We also got some publicity through a locally-based podcast.

April was when our bird feeders were stolen for the first time. We also started working with an architect to draw up plans for the future renovation.

Throughout May, I struggled through grief to get as much songwriting done as possible while fending off the return to a day job and procrastinating in my garden.

In June, our bird feeders were stolen again, but we finally got Blown Away demoed. So it wasn't all bad.

It was in July that I first met many of the local bloggers at the WKRN blogger party. I'm very glad for that experience. I also started my current job and visited California after being gone more than five years.

Throughout August, I once again struggled to keep up with songwriting while starting the new job.

In September, the scaffolding went up in front of the house and Karsten began his wonderful renovation on the windows.

October's big events were National Coming Out Day and the Oktoberfest party and open house. And the coining of my new moniker.

In November, I observed the anniversary of my father's death. I also attempted to write 30 songs in 30 days but apparently misheard the number as "13".

December is always full of parties and this year was no exception. We even hosted one of our own.

The summary of 2006 seems to be: better than 2005. I'm getting through my grief. I'm still struggling to find the time and discipline to write. I'm busying myself with work and the house and hanging out with friends, but it seems to have been a wide pendulum swing, and I'm looking forward to a more centered 2007.

Not a bad year, not a bad year at all. I think if I had tagged my posts, my socializing posts would have been way more than last year, too. :)

goes getting to know Kate and Karsten. Hanging with them on the August night out against crime, and admiring Karsten's handiwork on the scaffolding.

I've been whining about some recent bad luck, but creative and wonderful people like you make me feel lucky.

What a great summary. I'm so glad things are better for you--for those of us who have been watching you working through this, it has been a delight to see how successful you've been at it.

Thank you, Jae. "Successful" sounds funny to me because I'm acutely aware of where I've failed myself and others. But I guess I can also appreciate how much worse things could have gone.
